Pasighat is one of the oldest towns of Arunachal Pradesh situated in the eastern Siang district bordering Assam. With an average elevation of about 156 meters above sea level, Pasighat is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. The place is famous for its spectacular view of valleys covered in clouds, hanging bridges & greenery surrounding it. The NH-13 passes through Pasighat, as it crisscrosses Arunachal Pradesh. Near Pasighat, close to the Ranaghat bridge over river Siang, the NG-13 connects with NH-515. Pasighat is situated on the banks of river Siang which in Assam becomes the mighty Brahmaputra.
Till a few years back, reaching Pasighat was quite an arduous task. One had to cross the river Brahmaputra on a boat to reach here. After the construction and opening of the Bogibeel bridge near Dibrugarh at the end of 2018 and the Bhupen Hazarika Setu at Sadia in 2017, the connection of Pasighat with the rest of India through Assam has become much easier.
Pasighat has its own regional airport. Since 2018, ATR flights have connected Pasighat to the rest of the world through Guwahati. There is a helicopter service available to different parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Pasighat. Dibrugarh (Mohaanbari) which is approximately 159 km has a larger airport. The Mukongselek railway station in Assam is just 37 km away and takes less than an hour to reach.
Sikri Waterfall - Sirki waterfall is one of the prime attractions in Pasighat, It is approximately 10-12 km from the town, and it has a little trekking route with the exceptional beauty of nature surrounding it.
Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary – It is one of the prominent sightseeing points in Pasighat, the sanctuary is named after Daying Ering, a national politician of local origin. The sanctuary is spread over several islands on the river Brahmaputra and is home to different bird species and wildlife such as deer, elephants, jackals, pythons, etc.
Kekar Monying - It is a mountain cliff in East Siang with natural and historical significance. There is a black stone memorial on the cliff in the name of Mr Noel Williamson the assistant political officer of the British, who was killed by Matmur Jamoh, a native of Yagrung Village. Kekar Monying is an ideal hiking destination for adventurous people.
Other sights of interest include Pangin, Komsing Village, Bodak View Point and others.
The nearest major city of Pashighat is Dibrugarh (159 Km, 3 hours) in Assam, Tezu (169 Km) Arunachal Pradesh.
The main local inhabitants of the area are Adi Tribes who have been living here for time immemorial. Adi tribe is one of the oldest tribes living in India. The people there celebrate various festivals like Solung, Aran, etc.
