Kabi Lungchok

Kabi Lungchok is a place of religious and historical significance in Sikkim. The place is located about 18 km away from Gangtok close to Phodong town.

The place that saw the historic swearing of blood brotherhood between the Lepchas and the Bhutias. Lepcha, the original inhabitant of Sikkim, and the Bhutia, who migrated from Tibet, are said to have met here around the 14th century and swear brotherhood. An event that marks the foundation of the state of Sikkim and underlines the ethos of even the present day. Stone markers were erected to keep the promise alive and stand to this day.

As you travel towards north Sikkim from Gangtok, the route meanders through small villages flanked by fields and valleys until it hits the forest grove of Kabi Lungchok. Visit the area where the treaty was signed, there is no big temple or shrine there. There is a statue depicting the event of yore.

Kabi Lungchok is not part of the standard sightseeing itineraries of Gangtok. If you are travelling to North Sikkim, you can ask your driver to stop over for some time here before you continue towards North Sikkim.
